Monday: Stage Fright

Our week started with a scream at the screening of the new horror/musical hybrid Stage Fright. As we burrowed into one of the more intimate theaters at the IFC Center we realized we where literally rubbing shoulders with some of Broadway's biggest stars; cast members from Les Mis, The Book of Mormon, Aladdin, and Newsies to name a few. What better audience for this unapologetically campy love letter to both musical theater and slasher films of the 1980s? The creators, Jerome Sable and Eli Batalion, said they adore both but didn’t have the budget for two separate love letters. Stage Fright’s satire of these two seemingly disparate genres was an unexpectedly delicious pairing, like the first time you try pineapple and ham.
