On a recent evening in the West Village, one of those perfect summer-is-right-around-the-corner evenings just before sunset, a crowd of cool kids munched on smothered tater tots and burgers, washed down by cocktails that would feel at home in a Jimmy Buffett song, while locals assessed the fresh setup and revamp of a beloved neighborhood watering hole.

It was the opening preview of Bandits, the new sure-to-be hot spot from Den Hospitality, the team behind the Garret Bars. Named for their brand's familiar raccoon mascot, Bandits channels 1970s diner and dive vibes with glamorously retro interiors and a must-try menu that hasn't forgotten to pay homage to the location's former haunt, Daddy-O.

Inside, wood-paneled interiors combine with artfully curated accents for that visual (and 'grammable) aesthetic Garret regulars know and love. Designed by Yakka Studios, the space also includes plush booths, a playful mix of vintage decor and neon signs, and a disco ball-inspired ceiling featuring glittering golden tiles. The outdoor setup is equally impressive; they've basically recreated an old school diner en plein air, complete with black-and-white tiles and funky lighting.

The all-day food menu puts a fun twist on the classics, with a Jersey Ripper Dog (a New Jersey-style deep fried hot dog), a double smash burger, and even a vegan take on a "tuna" melt, made with a chickpea salad. Shareable bites include the standout Everything Bagel Shishito Peppers and "Have It Your Way" tots (personal recommendation: the Halal Cart Tots because, as they say, it's the hot sauce for me).

Of course, when it comes to a new destination from Den Hospitality, the cocktails take center stage. Led by Beverage Director Max Stampa-Brown, the extensive selection spans highballs and artisanal shots, dressed-up beers, and "Everyday Tiki" drinks. Signature sips, with expectedly cheeky names nodding to pop culture, include the Bradshaw on Bedford (lemon juice, rose petal, rhubarb, sun dried tomato, basil, vodka), I Drink Your Milkshake! (cold brew vodka, coffee liqueur, chocolate liqueur, five spice rice milk, pirouline wafer cookie), and the can't-miss Bobby Wasabi, a cocktail that's as fun to photograph as it is to drink (made with, you guessed it, actual wasabi).

Officially opening this week, Bandits' sizzling '70s energy has arrived just in time for a New York summer that's set to be a hot one - in more ways than one. Click through for your first peek inside!
