Ella's Soft Opening Gathers Rave Reviews

by Rachelle Hruska · September 25, 2008

“Ella is our spin on Hollywood glamour and the roaring 20s. We want to capture the energy and flair of the time by bringing it back with our music, design and staff” [Boyd via Clubplanet]

It's about time someone brought back a good old fashioned speakeasy to our city.  Gallery Bar Partners Josh & Jordan Boyd along with big cheese Darren Rubell (cousin of Steve Rubell), hosted a "soft" opening of their new joint on Avenue A, Ella, and we've heard several reports of rave reviews this morning.

Apparently the downstairs, which will be the cat's pajamas for private performances from local pianists, is just ducky, though the upstairs bar area was packed last night, with "one of the most tolerable crowds I've seen out in Manhattan in awhile" [Via tipster]

It's seems Ella might be the Real McCoy.  We can't wait to visit the space, designed by Carlton Varney (we're  stuck on his work at the Hotel Carlyle) for some old school Hollywood glamour in the LES.
