The space is illustrious with elaborate chandeliers and huge LED screens with animations that emphasize the pulsing beats. Drek Martinez, who on any other night would be the featured DJ, is spinning the opening set and getting the crowd warmed up.
I run into some party girls I know and catch up with them. One of them tells me she gladly paid a fifty dollar cover. Cover charges are like kryptonite for party girls like this, so the fact that she was happy about being there says something for the venue and, more importantly the stature of the DJ.
A parade of servers walk by with sparklers and a huge bucket containing a Jeroboam size (3 Liters) bottle of Veuve Clicquot. Dry ice creates a cool misting effect around the bucket. I think to myself “That probably put a dent in the rumored ten grand table minimum.”
