Manhattan's First Axe-Throwing Bar Is Actually Super Swanky (& Full Of Photo Ops)

by Una O'Brien-Taubman · October 16, 2020

Tired of being cooped up all day at home? Need to let off some steam? We've just the place!

Welcome to Live Axe, a 10,000 square foot subterranean Soho bar where - and this is the most important part so pay attention - you can throw axes!

The first of its kind to hit Manhattan, this place hits the mark! Ditching the all too obvious wood and lumberjack aesthetic for more of a modern, metropolitan viking vibe, owners Amit Fridman and Aviel ‘Zac’ Segal have created a sleek, industrial-chic space guaranteed to be the hottest spot downtown.

This place has everything: 7 cage-enclosed axe throwing lanes, 14 targets, "living walls," celebrity viking murals, and even a photo room full of costumes and props to guarantee you get the perfect fun snap!

The first floor features a black iron bar back-lit by futuristic fluorescent lamps where axe-enthusiasts can sip on playful cocktails served in skull mugs or with viking-themed accoutrements. And, as we all know, vikings need fuel to keep up their aim. Order menu classics like the loaded baked potato, white truffle pizza, or my personal favorite, the chicken skewers with an annoyingly delicious special secret sauce.

Hidden on a lower level is the VIP section, luxuriously complete with its own private bar and throwing lanes. I mean, could you think of a better birthday party setup?

Still a little nervous about the whole axe-throwing thing? Don't be. A Cage Captain will be there the whole time to teach you the tricks for the perfect throw and making sure everyone stays safe. A little tip from my personal Captain Axe-pert, Ryan: Try not to close your eyes while you throw!

Once you've got the hang of it, chances are you'll want to sign up for their Axe Throwing League which meets every Tuesday night. Who knows, you might even have what it makes to win the Championship Tournament?

Book a spot today for you and your friends. Or for you and your random Bumble date - name a better way to break the ice!
