China Chalet
I have to admit, this one hurt. Dim Sum restaurant by day, host of underground parties, skater boys, celebrities, drag queens, gallery girls, and the Democratic Socialists of America by night, China Chalet, nestled on a second floor in FiDi, has closed permanently. It's been a staple on the NYU kid party scene for nearly a decade (though it's been around for much longer - since 1975, actually) and frequently served as the after-party spot for only the chicest during Fashion Week and beyond. Sure, everyone was somehow much cooler than you and the dance floor smelled like cigarettes and sweat, but the iconic booths and tableside roses were the perfect complement to every blacked-out Instagram photo shoot.
