Aileen Getty helms her own eponymous foundation, which, according to its website, "supports organizations and individuals around the world committed to responding to the climate emergency and treating our planet and its inhabitants with kindness and respect." A section on the website includes "shocking facts" about climate change, noting the rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, sea level change, and global warming.
According to the report in the New York Times, Getty helped launch the California-based Climate Emergency Fund which provides financial support and legal defense to activists protesting pipelines and fossil fuel expansion. Getty has also contributed $1 million to the fund herself so far.
