“Other than THAT, Madam First Lady, how was the banquet?”
On October 18th, 1988, Iraq hosted a reception in honor of visiting Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak. At the party was then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's valet and aide, Kamel Hanna Jajjo (sometimes spelled Kamel Hana Gegeo). Not invited was 24-year-old Iraqi First Son, Uday Hussein. He was upset with Jajjo for introducing his father the President to his future second wife, which Uday saw as humiliating for his mother. In front of government officials and international dignitaries, Uday showed up to the reception and attacked Jajjo with a club and an electric carving knife, successfully taking his life. After being tortured, tried, sentenced to death, and exiled to Switzerland, Uday returned to Iraq and was put in charge of the Iraqi Olympic Committee.
