Murder beyond the Blue House
On 26 October 1979, Park Chung-hee, the third President of South Korea, had already survived previous assassination attempts including one that resulted in the death of his wife. By October 1979 there were protests in the streets to advocate for a more democratic government but they had been repressed by Park’s regime. Park Chung-hee attended a dinner party at a safe house with his intelligence director Kim Jae-gyu of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, the presidential secretary, his bodyguard, a rising singer and a young female college student. Park and Kim were close friends and confidants, but that didn't stop Kim from shooting him. President Park, the head of the Presidential Security Service, three bodyguards, and the presidential driver were all killed.
