Nero’s Domus Aurea, 64 AD
Ain't no party like a Roman Emperor party, that's for sure. Until his suicide in 68 AD, infamous ruler Nero held lavish and debaucherous affairs at his sprawling "Golden House," a 300-room space used just for revelry. Suetonius wrote that “all the dining rooms had ceilings of fretted ivory, the panels of which could slide back and let a rain of flowers, or of perfume from hidden sprinklers, fall on his guests.” Baths were kept running all day, and when Romans get drunk, you can expect quite a few orgies went down.
