Much has been written about Jeffrey Epstein and his various, high-powered friends in recent weeks, but one of his most important - and enabling - relationships has only begun to be dissected. The sex offender and accused pedophile is (also) known as a billionaire financier, but his mysterious rise from obscurity didn't begin until he met Leslie H. Wexner, the founder and CEO of fashion juggernaut L. Brands, the parent company of Victoria's Secret credited with building the lingerie company into the global giant it is today.

After being introduced to Wexner sometime in the mid to late 1980s, the New York Times reports, Epstein leveraged a quick relationship with the tycoon as his wealth manager. He then used his coveted, albeit unauthorized and unofficial, connection to Victoria's Secret to assault women, allegedly posing as a "recruiter" for the catalog. And though Wexner claims he has since cut ties, it wasn't until long after he and Epstein became bizarrely intertwined. "People have said it’s like we have one brain between two of us: each has a side,” Epstein once said.
