The Brearley Letter
Andrew Gutmann, a former investment banker whose daughter has attended the elite Brearley School since kindergarten, made headlines last week after writing a 1,700 word missive railing against an anti-racist curriculum he claims is too "woke" and mailing it to 650 fellow families at the school.
The all-girls school counts Caroline Kennedy and Kyra Sedgwick among its alumnae, while the likes of Chelsea Clinton, Tina Fey, Drew Barrymore, and Steve Martin are among those whose daughters are enrolled.
In the letter, Gutmann compares the curriculum to the "Chinese Revolution" and says he objects to being judged by the color of his skin (it's white, FYI).
Here's a snippet:
It cannot be stated strongly enough that Brearley’s obsession with race must stop. It should be abundantly clear to any thinking parent that Brearley has completely lost its way. The administration and the Board of Trustees have displayed a cowardly and appalling lack of leadership by appeasing an anti-intellectual, illiberal mob, and then allowing the school to be captured by that same mob.
