Hangawi

Hangawi
Walking into Hangawi is like walking off the plane in Seoul. Even though it is in Korea Town, inside is much more authentic than the Midtown streets. The decor is traditional Korean, and the seating is on the floor. Yes, your legs will fall asleep and you will squirm as you try to adjust yourself and reach across the table with chopsticks once they bring the dozen or so side dishes to your table. Hangawi is a Korean vegetarian restaurant that wants you to “be prepared to enter not just a gourmet Korean vegetarian restaurant, but a sanctuary as well." Start your meal with a hot bowl of sundubu, a tofu soup served in a clay pot. From there, the restaurant serves an organic bibimbap--the unofficial Korean national dish, which is a mixture of rice, mushrooms and vegetables, and can be served in a large bowl or a Korean hot pot.
