Get Drunk And Support Australia Disaster Relief

by Sun Kersor · January 20, 2011

As you may know, recent floods have made 75% of Australia's Queensland state a natural disaster zone. But fret not; your drinking habits can be part of a humanitarian effort to aid those Down Under.

Starting today and for the rest of January, the management at Double Crown (316 Bowery at Bleeker) and Public (210 Elizabeth St. between Spring and Prince) will donate sales from a selected list of beverages to the Queensland flood relief. Here's the break-down on what to drink to do some good.:

    Cocktail:

CUCUMBER, APPLE AND ELDERFLOWER TALL (with Zu Bison Grass vodka) $12

    Beer:

    COOPERS Pale Ale, Australia ($8)

    Wines by the Glass:

RIESLING, O'Leary Walker, 2009, Clare Valley AUS ($10)

SHIRAZ, Brothers Parade, 2007, Adelaide Hills AUS ($14)

    Wines by the bottle:

Cabernet Sauvignon, Streicker, Ironstone Block, 2007, Margaret River AUS ($83)

Riesling, Grosset, Polish Hill, 2010, Clare Valley AUS ($65)

Pinot Noir, Mac Forbes, Yarra Valley, 2008, Yarra Valley AUS ($55)

Grenache/Shiraz/Mataro, Torbreck, Cuvee Juveniles, 2009, Barossa AUS ($42)

In addition Kingswood (121 W. 10th at Bleeker) and its sister L.A. restaurant, Eveleigh, will host events on January 23 for which 100% of the door proceeds ($40 for Jackaroos and $20 for Sheilas) and $2 from every beer and 10% of all drink sales will go to the flood relief.

So no need to stick to Foster's; there are other ways to speak Australian and drink altruistically.
