Early Life & Activism
Ashley grew up in Delaware, where her father was Senator, and learned to use her voice for change early on, first setting her sights on advocating for animal rights. In elementary school, she found out that her favorite cosmetics brand, Bonne Bell lip gloss, was testing on animals, so she organized her school to start writing letters to the company. When she learned of the plight of dolphins getting stuck in tuna nets, she petitioned her father to help "save the dolphins," inspiring the 1990 Dolphin Protection Consumer Information Act, which Ashley herself helped lobby to Congress. Needless to say, it was only the beginning of her mission to make the world a better place.
