Designer Alejandra Alonso Rojas Shares Her Favorite Shelter Island Spots

by Christie Grimm · July 8, 2020

For the past four summer seasons, Alejandra Alonso Rojas has escaped the busy buzz of running her eponymous fashion line to decompress alongside her family at their gorgeous Shelter Island cottage.

In New York, the Spanish fashion designer and CFDA member spends her days creating the most effortless and luxurious looks. Honestly, each of her pieces will have you in an absolute shopping frenzy. I mean, this cashmere sweater with a braided pearl collar!? Or this dip-dyed pink silk skirt beauty!?! But I digress...

On the weekends? She's soaking up every last drop of beauty and taste her charming island has to offer.

Looking for a magical day-trip? Hit up her favorite beaches and restaurants!

BEACHES
Silver Beach: Get there via Crabcreek Street. It is very private, either with very few people or nobody at all, and it’s really nice and relaxing. The sunset is incredible. My house is very close by so we go there every day.

Shell Beach: So beautiful! There are two beaches here, one on each side of the island.

Sunset Beach: The scene in the summer. You can have drinks and lunch or dinner at the restaurant and enjoy the beach.

Hay Beach on Menhaden Lane: It has no services and is not a bathing beach, but it does have nesting areas for piping lovers, and incredible views of Gardiner’s Bay. There's also the lighthouse known as Bug Light, and the meandering coastline leading to Orient Point on the North Fork.

RESTAURANTS
Marie Eiffel Market: My favorite restaurant in Shelter Island. I adore her!! And her food is so good!!! She can also cook for you and does catering if you call her in advance.

Vine Street Cafe: They opened a little market on the back it’s great!

Isola Restaurant: They have amazing pizzas!

Pridwin Hotel: It has a great restaurant for lunch. Much quieter than Sunset Beach. We go to both.

King Andrew Cheeses: Incredible! He has an Instagram account so you can DM him with any questions.
