The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Donna Zakowska: Donna Zakowska is a renowned American costume designer. She has already won two Emmys for her showstopping outfits and accessories on the beloved Amazon TV series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Zakowska graduated from Barnard college and comes from an artist background; she started out as a painter and was also Woody Allen's assistant before moving into costume design.
Two of Zakowska's costumes from the show, set in the 1950s, have made it into a collection at the Smithsonian's Museum of American History. Her stunningly accurate and whimsical work is unparalleled. Her studio is filled with clippings, fabric samples, and research material from the period. By season three Mrs. Maisel has evolved into a full-blown stand-up comedian, and Zakowska's costumes help establish Rachel Brosnahan's character. In an interview with NPR the actress said, "These costumes change the way I move, and breathe, and walk, and talk, the way I hold my head. I don't feel complete until I look in the mirror and I have the full costume on and hair and makeup exactly right. Then I feel like I can just step in and do the acting part."
